My husband passed away recently after a long illness. He was on disability after a diagnosis of MS years ago. We had a biological child together (she's 8) and I have a daughter from a previous marriage..so she was my late husband's step-daughter....and she is 17. Myself and the 8-year-old receive survivor's benefits. The 17-year-old does not, since she was not his bio child.
I work part-time as a subcontractor cleaning offices. About a year ago, my 17-year-old started working for me and I have been paying her $100 a week. I understand the earnings limits and wondering how SS will view the fact I am paying my daughter to work for me? Is that allowed? I'm just trying to be aware of earnings limits and making sure I'm doing everything correctly. When I look at net earnings, I am just under the limit...but if I wasn't paying her, I would be over a bit. It's very borderline but I want to make sure I'm doing everything correctly and I need to be prepared for when she stops working for me to go off to school.
If anyone can answer this, I would appreciate it..
