I'm 69, working full time in IT. I plan on "semi-retiring" in 1-2 years, and developing my side hustling businesses before then: a limited coaching/counseling practice, and a specialized web design practice.
Thanks OP for posting this. I'm not retired , and far from it...although it would be great to be in a position to retire early!
The title of Side Hustling attracted my attention though.
There is also a podcast that I've listed to for a while on different side hustles.
The host interviews different people that have come up with ways to make money on the side and many later turned that into full time businesses.
The internet and technology have made it easier overall I think to earn side money.
It's probably mentioned in at least one of those links. But there are a lot of on demand services and it's not just younger people working on them.
The nice thing with the on demand apps is the hours are really flexible and you can chose to work when you want. A couple hours a week or even 60 hours a week if one wants.
My husband is doing consulting work. What they pay him per hour is beyond side hustling money. But it feels like side hustling when you compare to the $800 for 15 minutes that he used to get.
I'm doing a little bit of trading for side hustling, but not as frequent as I used to do before. I'm trying to set up in non taxable account so I can avoid paying tax.
$800 for 15 minutes?...That got my attention!..what type of work did he used to do?
Generally, they work until they drop. Know of a CPA who passed a couple months shy of age 85 due to prostate cancer and he was still banging out them tax returns a couple months prior to his departure.
I retired 3 years ago from my own business. For awhile, I was quite busy with a building project. Then I began to get a little bored...we had raised a few chickens for eggs before retirement, and I thought, why not raise some egg hens again?
Well, one thing led to another, and suddenly I was in the poultry business. Last year, we raised 325 chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese, all on pasture.
This year, we will step it up to 800 birds, and offer turduckens for the holidays, as well as Muscovy duck breasts (taste like prime beef). Now this is not really a side hustle, but it does bring in good money, and is something that anyone with an acre or two of land outside of city limits, can do.
Oh, and the eggs are delicious, too! You'll never go hungry with your own birds!
To me, side-hustling has an imagery of one doing something they like, maybe clever and one that results in easy money you can't believe. How about a perfect match of a part-time job or business with the very best of your skills and abilities?
That's my exit-strategy from the demands of my profession when I decide to pull my plug and join the hustle crowd.
Agree; this is my plan.
My go-live date is 1/2018. I am in the process of putting all the pieces together now.
