I purchased hearing aids a couple of months ago from Costco.
I was very unhappy with the performance K7 and went back several times only to be told that I had to get used to them and be patient and they could not restore my hearing of 20 years ago. Was unable to hear TV, had to take them off to hear a phone call, it was ridiculous. Finally I had enough. Made an appointment with the manager and advised of numerous problems and issues. He recalibrated the aids...took almost an hour but I can HEAR much better now and are satisfied.
I believe the 1st tech had no clue and perhaps was not properly trained or did not care.
Glad I requested another tech, in this case the manager, rather than returning them which I had contemplated. Things happen....

Your experience confirmed what I have read. Many of the hearing aids of today are very good / excellent .... even the "basic" Kirkland models. But it is critical that the programming is done correctly and that the teaching is good, or else the aids are useless.
We also had a good experience meeting with the Manager at the Costco Hearing Center, and always make appointments with this same person.
Best suited to me is the ReSound Cala.The remote was included and welcome since I do not have an I Phone.
in the interests of vanity, nobody yet has known I have them on and I have quite short hair.
So far, so good, in all respects. have a re-check apt today for any possible adjustments to the "normal" setting or whatever.
The original fitting after getting them took almost an hour so you can see that Costco is very thorough and they've extended the warranty to 180 days.
FYI - many of the hearing aids (including the Kirkland model) will work with Android phones as well. So if you have a smart phone, you wont need the remote control.
My Costco HA's have a "Restaurant" sound profile mode that can be switched on. Not perfect but it has cut down on repeated communications breakdowns when placing an order with the server.

Seriously, texting is the miracle technology for those of us who have bad hearing. I tell people all the time, don't call me, text me!
I have been debating getting HA. My hearing is so bad in one ear the audiologist said HA won't do much for it. But my poor wife is probably going deaf from having to watch TV with the volume cranked way up so I can hear it.
Anybody get just one HA, for the better (but still poor) ear?

I have one ear that is much worse than the other, but I have a HA in it because it balances the sound and really makes a huge difference. You don't want to go with only one.
As far as hearing TV, The TV's at my home and the TV's at my daughter's home where we are frequent visitors, all are set in the CC (closed Caption) mode all the time. Then you won't drown out the others present..
For the most part I can hear the TV, but the CC is invaluable for what you miss. The CC doesn't bother the other family members so it's operational all the time. At night when wife goes to sleep, I remove my HAs and turn the volume way down and watch any program I wish without disturbing wifie..
I'm so used to reading the words now that I still read even when I can hear. Sometimes I have to consciously make myself stop reading and listen..!!
Get HAs if needed, it will change your life.
I use CC but with some shows they are speaking fast so the CC does not stay up long and I cannot read it all before it disappears. So I do both - listen and read CC.

Try TV Ears. We have used them for many years and we love them. Well worth the money if I can save my family from the pain of too high volume.
We used to get them at Radio Shack but I see many other places sell them as well.

I have a similar situation - one ear is so bad a HA wouldn't do much good. The other is in the severe/profound loss category but a HA makes it workable. I've been using one HA for years. I always keep the wife and/or others on my good ear side when walking - it works for me.
I've definitely gone to my last theater movie. Last night the 5 of us went to see Rogue One in our super duper fancy new theater. My 35-year-old son is a big Star Wars fan and he really wanted us all to see it together.
Big mistake. If I got the sound on my hearing aids to where I could hear the dialogue, the sound of the special effects was so loud I thought my brain would explode. On top of that, many of the actors had accents.( Believe me there are lots of explosions, zooming space ships, etc.)
To preserve what is left of my poor shriveled up brain I had to miss most of the dialogue.
Hearing problems aside, I'd just as soon watch movies at home in the comfort of my jammies and with my TV Ears which are wonderful for our family.

Is this your first time with hearing aids?
Yes, my first time and I learned a valuable lesson.
I read an article concerning my issue and they pointed out that a lot of hearing Aids about 40% or higher
are not properly calibrated. Hard to believe ! I was also told to use alcohol to clean the tips, however, the manager advised not to do that, it will deteriorate the material especially the tips. Makes sense.
