Retirement forum has a LOT of very 'closed minds'.
Fortunately only a few flamers (who are not keen on opening their CLOSED minds)

Camping out here would be JUST LIKE having a Gov job

What a downer.

Lots of very nice campgrounds, (on the vast internet and in community service volunteer realm)
C-D 'retirement' gets very little of my time, and even less of my 'input' (cuz 'creative / i.e. NORMAL life for most of us... ' type of INPUT is not acceptable the those who have a personal agenda drum to beat, while their heart is still beating)

You find them everywhere in retirement, often in HOAs. Spent their careers making excellent work places miserable for others, so now spending their retirement doing similar. (it is their 'nature' and (only) comfort zone)

Many in our midst, I for them and those they insist to demean to pump up their own worth (?).

Generally civil here, but sadly the forum is sequestered by the drum beaters.

beat on !!!

When I first came to CD it was the religion section. I got tired of the hate and attacks. Now it’s here, the CA, cell phone and various other forums. Automotive, Small town-rural, non romantic relationship, psychology and most recently, philosophy. Boy that last is filled with a lot of depressing people!

  • Automotive: 4700
  • Relationships: 807
  • House: 733
  • Guns and Hunting: 667
  • Retirement: 602
For me anyway. No idea what #6 would be.

The above I think is a fairly accurate snapshot of my interests - Cars, Girls, House (a place to keep the car and be with the girl) Guns, and thinking ahead to retirement as I am about 60.

I just noticed that TPTB keep track of which forums (or fora if you prefer) everyone posts in, and lists the top 5 in the statistics section of your profile. ?

Mine are LA and Calif, these two often are controversial.

I don't necessarily post on these often but here's my five.

1. Cleveland (find out what's going on in my town)
2. Portland ( find out what's going on in my former town)
3. TV (check up what people are saying on my favorite TV shows)
4. Retirement (don't know why)
5. Just kind of general browsing

They may be closed (in your opinion), but at least they're functioning enough to understand the hypocrisy and outright inanity of posting over and over about owning multiple residences and multiple businesses in multiple locations, as well as having 12 - - -count' em 12 - - - brokerage accounts, while at the same time also whining over and over (and over and over and....) about not being able to afford health care in the U.S.

Remember the Irwin Shaw novel (or the tv miniseries) titled Rich Man, Poor Man? That was logically about two separate people, not one person who couldn't make up his mind whether he wanted to be thought of as rich and successful or poor and in need of help. That would have been illogical and wouldn't have made any sense.

But what do I know? I'm just one of the many people with a closed mind who frequent the Retirement Forum.
