My personal desire is to Not live to be 100 or even 90. I don’t want to outlive all of my friends. A good friend of mine, his mom is 93, and all of her friends are dead
I actually thought some areas/states/cities in this country allowed assisted suicide.
I doubt I'll live to be 80 with all my health issues from birth on, they get worse as I age. I figure if I do it will be gravy.
My FIL is now 90, all his friends and relatives, save one ate gone, including my MIL. He's just waiting to die and is in frail health.
We have 3 jobs between us, but he thinks we should have every day to cone baby sit him, and we just dint have time. He wants a phone call every day to be sure he is still alive. We don't begrudge him that, but he started to play games of not answering his phones ( he's got landline, computer magic jack and cell) to see if we'd come running, then say " while you're here you can visit ". He absolutelydoesnt understand we have our lives, and are just busy.
We got wise to his ploys, so now we call only at night at 8 pm when he's getting ready for bed. He's some times out, and doesn't answer his cell either, and it's a wasted trip to go check on him.
As I said we don't begrudge him, but he will sit and argue every thing you say!!! Literally!!! It gets old fast.
My father is fairly healthy though he's losing short term memory. I visit him twice each month when I'm in his town on business. He's not argumentative at all.
Well be old some day, I guess, but with no children to pester, we hope to be active as much and as long as we can before giving up the ghost to be tv junkies.
I would hope when all seems lost and my health really goes south I'll be able to go peacefully in my sleep...keys words here....When I CHOOSE to actually give up the ghost.
As of April 5, 2018, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington have Death with Dignity statutes; the Hawaii statute, approved in 2018, goes into effect on January 1, 2019. In Montana, physician-assisted dying has been legal by State Supreme Court ruling since 2009.

As much as I love my friends I'd prefer to be the one who has the longer life.
I worked with very old retired priests and when I would see some and ask how they were doing, if I hadn't seen them in a bit, they would always say things like... "well, I'm still here". They weren't very happy about their prolonged existence.
I also had a neighbor who just died last year at 96, he was miserable and wasn't happy about continuing on.
