Amazing, isn't it?

Medicare recipients could save big by asking for the cash price at the pharmacy

When filling a Rx I always ask the pharmacy cashier "is that your lowest price?".

Everyone should use the GoodRx app. Many meds are much cheaper with cash and manufacturers discount than with insurance.

Smile Learned this years ago

I was having major eye surgery the old fashioned way - I had insurance but because it was birth related, never covered.

Doctor's office asks for $14,500 prior to surgery
I explained insurance would not cover
After meeting with someone, office manager comes out and says that will be $3750 if you pay cash right now.

This was 1992.

Interesting lesson so I always ask.

Not sure if that article is correct. Cash price for my blood pressure meds is $20 a month. With my part D it is $5 for 3 months. I can cite other examples, like my wife’s meds

Certainly not all or even most meds are cheaper with cash. Just a larger number than one would think. Always have to ask.

Apparently some areas yes, some no. I only take one RX, a generic blood pressure med; current Medicare advantage plan's co-pay is $20 for 90 day supply. Cash price at the same pharmacy is $10 for 90 day supply. Helps to ask.

Heard that on local radio yesterday. Cost is so divorced from the end price that it’s disgusting.
