This is somewhat interesting. About ~50% of folk (assuming they are being truthful and not injecting wannabe numbers) are below $1m and the other are over $1m. I wonder if that is a really true representation.
Since the poll is anonymous, there is no reason to answer untruthfully
Though there are some deceitful ones here of course, as there is everywhere who post deceitfully on purpose
I see a small handful who may be answering untruths
but not many. JMHO
The 50/50, regarding those who actually answered the poll, sounds slightly inflated yet close enough to accurate. Just my guess.

I just glanced through all the replies but I didn't see this come up: Are we answering for amount per household or individual?? If I interpreted it as retirement savings for Mr. and Mrs. Bigdogmom and answered $2M, but Joe is single and answered that he has retirement savings of $900,000, doesn't that kind of skew the results?

(All amounts fictional, of course)
The poll reads "DO YOU" have saved for retirement.
If you are married, likely, half of his $$ is half of yours.
So divide by 2
I had $20,000 in savings. Since my retirement is government it's the same every month with a 5% COLA each year until I die. SS was on top of that. I was comfortable. Then the exgf took it all and now I live retirement check to retirement check with zero savings.
in my opinion you will find that unlike other forums like the early retirement forum people in this forum are a mixed bag .
many don't even like hearing success stories , others love the how bad everyone is doing articles . unlike the routinely open discussion using actual numbers on other forums , discussing numbers here will usually be met with you are bragging comments.
you do have some that are interested in numbers and tactics but the forum has a different make up than those forums which are more success oriented .
I have not visited other investment forum sites so I cannot compare, but I would GUESS that because members here discuss all aspects of their lives; political, social, moral, religious, marital, ect, it is easier for people to value judge other people (and that is a popular pastime on CD) - especially when you bring personal finances into the picture. For that reason, I would think people are reticent to discuss their intimate financial details.

I believe it is universal for the married couple to pool pensions, investments, etc...then divide by 2.
Is the division because of divorce in your explanation or normal circumstance because we don’t divide.
