Come Feb 5, I will finally be debt free. I spent an extra year to be near my 99 yo father. One year since his death, Feb 2.
Finally, I will be able to be in true retirement. Almost 20 years caring for others. And now just a few years before someone has to care for me and spouse. We have to learn how to enjoy ourselves and spend money

I started a company 12 years ago and recently sold. 60 years old and recently sold it so financially fine. Unfortunately have stage 4 cancer. As they say health is more important than wealth.

Update: Despite 3 years of not working and living on my savings (no pension) I found my savings have grown nicely. However I was bored and restless and unfullfilled so took a RN Refresher course last summer and I found a job in Dec 2019. Free tuition for people 60 and over! I am now an RN working in a hospital (again after 25 years). At 61 , It is the hardest thing I have ever done. I made it through a 5 week orientation and now I am working 3 12 hour shifts a week. I love it. Intellectually challenging and rewarding to be appreciated by patients. Super busy but I'm loving the new technology. I work with lots of different staff and I am happy to be around people again! 3 shifts is like working PT. I have 2-3 days off between shifts. This time I am working as long as am able, hoping to last until 66-67. The hospital is 5 mins from my house and I am making and saving money and I get inexpensive health care insurance. My 2 sons are thrilled I turned my life around.

Fortunately I had paid off my home in 2014 and had no liabilities. I have spent the past two years frequently traveling internationally and trying to "find" myself. I returned to school in 2017 to earn an ESOL Teaching Certificate. I am proud to say I am doing just fine, despite not having the multi-million amount I thought I needed to retire. My "non retirement" nest egg will allow me to live modestly and take 2 vacations a year until I take SS and retirement distributions in 7 years.

This year I have done 1. 3 week Tour of Europe 2. Caribbean cruise 3. 3 week Tour of Central America 4. Trip to Canada 5. Alaska Cruise 6. In December: Tour of Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore

So sorry to see this. You work your entire life only to face this...

Hang in there.
