Anyone else find these waning as they approach retirement? Most of my working life, mine have run like, well, clockwork, but lately I find myself unable to get to work on time, and not because I dread/avoid it. I just can't seem to get everything done like I used to. I also remember when I could work AND play AND still get all my chores and errands finished, but lately it seems to be an "either/or" situation. Is this a syndrome relating to pending retirement (mentally preparing yourself to have no schedule in the future) or just a sign of getting older?

Maybe both. I still have a garage to clean up. Yet I’m spending my time doing what I like first. Since I’ve retired, anything can wait, I take care of my husband and my health first. But I manage to do at least something a week. Like this week, I can claim we fixed our rangehood, which saved us almost $2000. I’ve moved my HSA. One thing at a time.

Perhaps you have already "retired in place." Like running a race, it's sometimes better not to focus on the finish line too soon.

ROAD - Retired on Active Duty is what we used to call it in the military

I've stopped doing lots of daily chores. But i've been retired for years. I just want to do fun and interesting things.

I marvel at the people that continue to obsess over cutting their grass and washing their windows.

Not sure which it is, but either way it's me as a retired person.

I think the difference is that I no longer care, because most days my boss is very forgiving (because it's me, LOL)

Yep. "Better them than me".

It's really cold outside today, so I may even get a few household chores on my list done. Or not.

And this doesn't worry you (any of you)? I can see myself becoming a complete couch potato. On the other hand are those retirees who have more of a packed schedule after quitting work than before! Not sure which is more "pathological."

It’s worst, the brutal cold weather encourages baking, I’ve made carrot cake last night for that reason, I want the heat. Normally it’s too hot to bake here. So not only I don’t get to expertises, I get to eat more stuff I shoukdnt be eating in the first place.
