When it rains, it pours. My wife just got out of the hospital a couple weeks ago, after spending a week due to loss of blood and some other scopes and such.

I knew I had the hernia, but my pcp told me watchful waiting was in order. I did that for 2 years and I realized it was just getting bigger and more rapidly. I mentioned it to the surgeon who was taking care of my wife and here I go. It will be laparoscopic. I am kind of fearful right now.

My husband had hernia surgery, but not umbilical hernia. He was scared, but it turned out well. Don’t be fearful. It was done outpatient I believe.

Not heard of umbilical hernia.

I have had hernia surgery 2 times over the years. Each was different.

In 1973, i was a tire builder for Firestone (cadillac tires). I strained my umbilical. I went into the hospital, i was given anesthetic, i believe it was Sodium Pentothal. I was told to count back from 100. I think i got to 97.
Next thing i knew i woke up. I was all done. I have never had a problem with umbilical again...

Best Wishes for you...

I had umbilical surgery. Not a big deal bro. They go in , tuck everything back, put a mesh in there. The worst part for me was getting out of hospital, since my bladder was "asleep" from anastecia .
Don sweat it.

DH had a same day laprascopic inguinal hernia surgery. He arrived in the morning and was out by the afternoon. He had an easy recovery. He knew about his and was “too busy” with his project management. He’s still working and let it go for six months until it had to be done last year, it was dangerously large by that time. We had recently put in a pool and while he could shower, his doctor didn’t want his incision submerged in a tub or pool for thirty days. He got to sit with his feet in the pool for 30 days, oh the irony!

It’s good you are taking care of it, best wishes for a speedy recovery.

DH had surgery for 3 hernias, one of which was umbilical. They did one, and then two at the same time at a later date. He had the surgery with a 3-4" incision, not laparoscopy, but it was outpatient surgery. He said it was painful to sit up from lying down position for a few days. He said he needed only OTC analgesics for pain. It didn't hurt when lying down, or sitting still, only when changing positions. After a week there was no more pain, and after 2 weeks he went back to playing golf, etc. Nothing to be afraid about. His work gave him 4 weeks off! So for him, it was like he got a free 2 week vacation (well he did have to use sick leave, but he had a ton of sick leave).
