Back on topic ... Chafee wants to changeover the country to the metric system. He'd really be screwed then, trying to count to 10 !

No, I think he's presenting himself as the ONLY person who voted against the Iraq war. With both Jeb and Hillary running the question of "If you knew then what you know now...." has come up and Chafee is the only person in the race who can respond that he voted no.

I really don't think he's gaming for anything. He's just continuing to follow his own odd drumbeat. Which is admirable, really - 99.9% of politicians are in it for the money.

It doesn't matter because Hillary already is public about admitting that was a mistake.
She isn't going to lose, not by any chance, so the entire discussion is academic and
Chafee knows this. He's just looking for a payoff of some kind (like ambassador, etc)
once he endorses Hillary. I don't think he's anywhere near politically strong enough
or advantageous enough to be considered for VP. Is there a cynical bone in your body ?

And if they want to play this game, it's the Republicans who are historically the party of abortion, birth control, and support for Planned Parenthood. Not to mention anti-Catholic bigotry.

Nice dig at Mr. Chafee. I think he can manage.

I think he is right to push the metric system. As our economy continues to become globalized through the various trade agreements, including NAFTA, and the impending Trans Pacific Partnership, our competitive disadvantage will only increase the longer we remain stuck in the mud of imperial units. Just the simple benefits to our STEM training (or at least the STE portion) is argument enough to convert.

Probably the hardest part would be to get the construction trades on board, for reasons obvious to anyone familiar with the trades and '2x4s' (which of course are 1.5" x 3.5"), NPT, or 12 AWG.

Good for him for pushing this issue.

Imagine! Chafee wants to bring the US of A into conformance with (gasp!) the rest of the world!

It would be a challenge for me and for many to learn metric, but not that big a deal. If that's the best out-of-staters who never lived here when Chafee ran for state-wide office can do to ding him, well, that itself is a very sad commentary. (Of course, were one to post on, say, the NC forum as an out of stater about their wacky religiopolitics, there'd be a cross-burning the next day. Funny how that "Southern Hospitality" works.)

You're so far off base, per usual, ABoy that you don't comprehend the issue.

If Linc Chafee's only and best 'platform' is to change the USA to metrics, he's one sorry dude. No one had to live in RI when Chafee ran for office, and changed parties back and forth until someone voted for him. He has a history of stubbing his toe and talking out of his posterior. The true native RI'ers know the Chafees very well; and his father (who I knew personally) is most likely turning over in his grave.

Evidently that is the only lame idea Chafee has had in the past 6 months; oh, he's been living in Canada. We get it now.

As a loyal 'lover' of NY's Bill DeBlasio, and his ilk, you should be more careful where you throw the flames.

Yes, of course you knew Sen Chafee's dad -- half of Rhode Island did, so what?

Chafee left the GOP because of what it became: a bigoted, hate-filled party of small-minded pervs, a party of fear-biting uber-elderly, a party that is declining and dying. When you next go to the center or the library to use the PC, research how many Republicans are still representing the Northeast. Used to be a lot. Now? The national party of clowns and radicals ran them out of office.

As to de Blasio (not DeBlasio), whom I'm sure you also know well and personally (now you're an expert on NYC politics), I doubt you've ever stepped foot in the city.

As a 'lover' of that collection of misfits and freaks of nature, it's not surprising you'd come here to stir up trouble. I bet if I posted this sort of radical drivel on the NC forum I'd get banned or run out off the forum.
