But ... but ... we know as an indisputable fact that Rhode Island is toxic to corporations and that nothing could possibly attract them short of importing Sam Brownback from Kansas to serve as governor! Everybody knows that Rhode Island is anti-business. Who are you going to trust? The liberal media or the perfect hive mind of everybody knows?
So, what are we talking about here, a possible move of an office with some
executives in it, so they can file taxes here, but not hire anyone ?
Big Whiff.
Just to clarify - RI corporate tax rate is actually more like 15% to 30% lower than other NE states. For example, you would need to subtract 20% from Vermont's corporate tax rate of 8.5 to get to RI's of 7.

800 employees at Headquarters in Fairfield and 5700 in CT. How many open jobs that would mean in RI- don't know. Fairfield is too far to commute I believe.
Officials in at least 11 other states are trying to lure one of the nation’s best-known companies, attracted not only by GE’s prestige but also by the financial benefits to a state and its communities provided by hundreds of highly paid executives and their families moving in.
I haven't seen any word on where they would consider locating in RI. It would be wonderful if they would consider the Industrial Trust Tower. Hey, we can dream, can't we? That's a good thing that needs to be brought to light.
Yes, I also read that they were in RI previously, though they've been headquartered in CT for 40 years, so I'm not sure what kind of operations they had here.
They moved most of what was here to Ohio. One of my friends who was in HR.. made the move and worked in OH until she had her requisite years in for full retirement. They printed her name on cases full of lightbulbs for her when she retired. She moved back to RI, sold her former family home she had rented out and then bought a condo.
GE's CT hq........is like it's own office park. Low rise buildings over parking garage........and naturally....Solar Panels on the roof!
I suspect if they do move, they'd move to not only a tax friendly state, but one with low operating expenses as well.........where land is plentiful and cheap.
