The PPS recently spent money on two pages of advertising against the Fane Tower. Money wasted in our opinion that should have been spent elsewhere. We have long contributed to them, but not this year. The money could have been better spent in fighting to preserve the Nicholson property on Blackstone Blvd. One of the last large estates on the East Side of Providence. A beautiful building and wonderful gardens that have been allowed to deteriorate over the last year as a developer has bought the property from the estate of Mr. Nicholson who died a year ago. Preserving this property rather than splitting it into 10 properties should be a prime directive of the PPS rather than fighting new construction downtown. Alas, without their intervention the city of Providence will allow this to happen as each new home will be in the $1,000,000 range. Tax money the mayor can't refuse. Or maybe the mayor can because he felt a $300,000,0000 investment was not needed. I wonder will the mayor design these new homes?
