Instead of the RIDOH dashboard, I'd suggest checking the Providence Journal for accurate COVID information. (There's no paywall for COVID articles.)
I've noticed that every day recently, Projo has shown much higher numbers (for new cases) than the dashboard. For example, the dashboard showed 75 new cases yesterday. Projo showed 120 new cases.
"The Rhode Island Department of Health on Tuesday reported one coronavirus-related deaths and 120 additional cases of COVID-19.
Of the new cases, 75 were positive tests from Monday, and 45 were positive tests added to previous days’ totals."
Can someone explain why RIDOH is burying new cases in previous days?
The first infographic on the "dashboard" only reports the previous day's cases. Those are later revised as additional information comes in, including both positive and negative test results. With the additional "buried" data from prior days added today, the 7-day average percent positive (not counting repeat negative tests) as of yesterday changed from 5.3% to 5.0%. The spreadsheet has all of the up to date numbers.
JWU had over 500 students in labs July and August - No reported cases of COVID among those students. For the last two weeks Quarantine Students have been checking into their dorms and starting this week the rest of the Freshmen on-campus students will be moving in (normally a one day process). So far so good and very impressed with all the safeguards and scenarios JWU has come up with. Feeling safe.
Another photograph of a maskless Gov. Gina Raimondo is causing a social media stir as the governor’s critics say it shows she doesn’t practice what she preaches.
To be fair, in text that explains that pic, Raimondo had taken off her mask only for the picture...
Also, I am stunned how we all think we are doing great with 90 or so cases a day. I tried to find precise numbers by age on the RIDOH website, but could only find percentages. So - so far we have lost about 10 30-39 year olds, 20 40-49 year old to covid and 50 50-59 year olds (100 60-69 year olds). By comparison, in a moderately severe flu season, in 2018-19, we lost 1 5-24 year old, 1 25-49 year old, and 11 50-64 year old. How many kids lost a parent?
"The number of nursing home infections and deaths in Rhode Island related to the coronavirus continues to rise. Governor Gina Raimondo has been focused on schools reopening without a word about the number of cases and deaths at nursing homes."
"Over the past two reports issued by the state, homes like Bannister House in Providence and Riverview Healthcare Facility in Coventry have been hit hard with the virus.
Bannister House (now, branded Bannister Center), which spiked at the end of July to 24-29 cases, has seen the number of cases drop to less than five, but during the month, the facility saw 10-14 deaths."
"A number of Rhode Island nursing homes are seeing an increase in cases over the past ten days. Riverview Healthcare Facility in Coventry has been hit the hardest with 20-24 active cases and that facility now has 10-14 deaths."
"Brookdale South Bay in Wakefield saw cases jump from none in the previous reporting period to 15-19 cases."
"There are now ten homes in Rhode Island with active coronavirus cases."
Thanks for posting, redplum. I am not surprised, but generally disappointed that we don't hear more about where infections are happening and what percentages can be linked to clusters etc. What do people here think about Raimondo's push for a full reopening of schools by mid Oct? And the "bubble" size of 30?
