This is more mythology that has been debated to death in these forums. The usual conclusion that is reached is that the average New England resident can be harder to get to know initially, but once they warm up they can become steadfast friends. If by "NE society", you mean blue bloods and old money- well yeah- they're not accepting new applicants.
I lived in SF for many years. I would say people there are no more or less friendly or accepting than here. Not sure exactly what bluevelo means by "accepting"- if it means tolerant- I find Rhode Islanders extremely tolerant!
Many times too tolerant, too lax, and not vigilant enough!
This thread is a little old....BUT...Sacramento is NOT expensive for housing...one of the least expensive in California for being a city its size.
Look at realtor.com, and I'd be able to find a 1000 houses well under $150,000...it is NOTHING like San Francisco and the Bay Area's real estate market.
