Hi,

I will be relocating to Richmond, VA in August and am will be looking to rent an apartment or condo in the West End / Short Pump area. Hoping to get some recommendations on which Apartment complexes are the best options for that area. Safety and cleanliness are the primary considerations. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

There are no "bad" places in Short Pump. There's all safe and most very clean since there not old. It's hard to make recommendations since you didn't say what your looking for. Apt, Townhouse, Near Shopping, Walking distance to shops or not, Busy, Quiet and set back. Without knowing any of this I'd just say you can't go wrong with Short Pump, or most of the West End for that.

We settled on Madison at Spring Oak Apts. directly across from the Short Pump Mall. We are not in the unit just yet but we are very satisfied with our choice. They were noticeably better than the other 4 places we visited around the area.

Thank you for the feedback. Madison at Spring Oak is one of the places I plan on visiting when I come for an apt hunting trip in mid-July. Hoping to visit as many places as practical over 2 days and decide on something. Did you also happen to visit Dominion West End, Legacy at Mayland and Oaks at Gayton. If so, what did you think of them? I am not at all familiar with Richmond, I currently live in San Francisco, but those are ones I found in that area via an internet search.

I lived at Madison at Spring Oak when it first opened in 2002. Location is fabulous. I was not used to being in a garden style apartment and it was noisy when someone moved above us. If I lived there again it would be on the third floor. Most apartments in Richmond are like that, though (I was used to high rises in Chicago and Northern Virginia which are much better for sound insulation). I believe Dominion West End is older than Madison. Don't know what updates, if any, they have done. Location is good though.

I lived in the West End in Culpeper Farms Apts. and no real complaints. There's a large Punjab presence in the community, but it was pretty decent. No worries about loud music thumping at 3 am, not loitering, no violence.

I'd live there again.
