Been looking into Raleigh/Durham due to the affordability (I'm coming from LA where I'm priced out of this city. I have a 2 yr old son and looking for a better quality of life.) How expensive is Richmond? Can you get, say, a 2500 sq ft home (new - but not cheesy McMansion) or quallity older home between 300-400K in a beautiful neighborhood close to the city with shopping and things to do?
Any feedback would be great, thanks!!!

Yes, you can get that in Richmond. I have no idea about Raleigh. It is a great buyers market here right now. I can give you some particular subdivisions if you let me know more about what you're looking for. Richmond doesn't have the McMansions like LA.

Sure. Our house. My wife and I are thinking about moving to the country with our two daughters to be closer to their grandparents. Our home is located in the city and overlooks a park. We are 2 mintutes from Downtown, interstates 95 & 64. Not to mention Virginia Commonwealth University and MCV. As for shopping, you can get to any mall within 10 minutes. Our neighborhood has a very active and informative civic group that is as equally diverse. If you don't like homes that are 80 or more years old with modern emenities then this house and neighborhood is not for you. Please feel free to contact us at 4hite@comcast.net with any questions. Good luck and God Bless.
