I am looking into the Ashland area and need info. Anyone know about the Misty Pines Apartments there? I can't believe a 2-level apartment is renting for $550. That is so much better than what I have right now. Is the crime bad in Ashland? Family life? Etc.....any info would be great.

Not an upscale hood by any means. Lots of communal type feeling in Ashland, if you are into that sort of thing.

Umm....not upscale is fine with me. I'm tired of that anyways. What do you mean by "communal type feeling"?

I'm not the type of guy who needs to know everything about my neighbors. I also do not want my neighbors knowing everything about me. I get that feel from inside the town limits, and there is a definite 'been here' , 'come here' feeling in the air. You have either been here from the start, or come here from somewhere else, and you are treated accordingly. a Been here is someone who graduated from Patrick Henry High School, and that network is evident in all town matters. It's a great place where you can walk your kids up and down the streets, along the tracks, and attend all the town festivities, but I live several miles outside of town, and wouldn't mind being further out. That's just me. I realize that my description is probably a bit negative, but that's my opinion and yours may differ.

When I moved to the area I looked a lot in Ashland mainly because of the pricing, After A LOT of searching, going back to neighborhoods, complexes at different times of the time really "checking them out" I came to the conclusion that like everything else in life, you get what you pay for. I wound up in the Henrico West End where I'm very happy. I'm in the Short Pump area but 5 min from here you can get deals almost as good as in Ashland but IMO "higher quality".

Hanover County has excellent schools, but the schools that homes in Ashland are assigned to are not Hanover's best (Mechanicsville school assignments are superior). That is part of the reason it is relatively inexpensive.
