Good morning, I am a single mom with 2 children and thinking about relocating to virginia form georgia. i am originally from houston but i can not bear to go back to the heat. the company that i am presently working for has an office in richmond and i am trying to find out about richmond or the richmond area. can anyone give me some ideas and information on the area. i do not mind a commute of 30- 45 minutes, since my current commute is longer. good schools are also a high priority. thanks for any help you can offer. missyazz

Default before relocating to the richmond area...

Hi! Richmond has a lot to offer. Many nice areas and interesting places to take children. Good quick access to most areas, and rush hour traffic is generally not too bad, at all. Powhatan, just west of Richmond has excellent public schools. Check the area weather, though, if you don't like heat and humidity. It seems to be getting worse each year. Google weather data for different areas for comparison, but note how current the data is. The "comfort index" is a pretty good indicator, and is given for many cities. The US average is 44 out of 100. Richmond area is shown as 42, though it may have gone down recently. If you can handle the weather, then the Richmond area can be great. I find that generally, people here are quite reserved. With relocating to anywhere though, I've found that if you go to the grocery store that you will be using, and feel comfortable, that is a good indicator. Also, in checking schools, with permission of course, listen to the kids as they come in from recess, or back from lunch, and decide if that is the environment that you would be happy for your kids to grow up in. Good luck!

Answering some of these questions might help. If you don't want to, then that's ok as well.

1. Budget for a home?
2. What grades will your kids be in? (elementary, middle, or high school?)
3. What part of town will you be working in? (Downtown, innsbrooke, West Creek Parkway, by the airport, south side?)

If we knew around where you'd be working, then we could use that to recommend places within 30-45 minutes of there. If we knew your budget, then we could know if we can recommend the higher priced places, or find places to recommend that are less expencive. If we knew around how old your kids will be, then we could recommend areas known for their high schools, or elementary schools maybe.
