They opened this weekend, so I went there today with my Springfield XD. Had a great time shooting. State of the art facilities, fantastic, friendly and very helpful staff and equally friendly and helpful range safety officers. I look forward to many many fun hours at the range in the coming months !! Their ammo price is reasonable but I think I will buy in bulk online just to save even more. I also plan to buy a Mossberg shotgun I have had my eyes on for a while from them, the price they are offering is good and matches good online discount shops.

I just can't stop thinking about the shooting lanes lol they are so well--lit, well-ventilated and equipped with high-tech accessories and instruments, I think everyone should treat themselves at least once to a shooting experience like this!! I also met some folks that are pros and have shot all over the country and what not and traveled from out of town and they were revving about the place also.

This is a patently false statement. Range fees at CSA are below or equal to all newer indoor ranges in Virginia and elsewhere in the country. Fees are based on the cost of building a new modern air conditioned indoor range with high tech targeting system which runs $75,000.00 per lane of which CSA has 51 lanes. Members or the public can shoot their own ammo and keep their own brass or buy our ammo at a competitive price. If someone shoots twice a month or more, the membership fee can quickly pay for itself. Members are able to participate in "group buys" of ammo a couple of times a year where they can buy ammo at close to cost in bulk. There are also membership discounts on reloading components, range ammo and numerous other opportunities are available to make shooting more affordable.

CSA was built by and staffed by shooters who enjoy the sport and had looked for years for a way to bring a new range to Richmond and show the shooting sports in a "positive" light. It is the largest indoor shooting facility in the US and we are fortuanate to have it here in Richmond.

I sense jealousy from members or associates of an older range in Richmond and there is no need for that. Speaking for myself, I believe we need to support every range and gun store, instructor, etc. we have in the Old Dominion! it is bad enough to have a government trying to take away our rights and close every small business it can without us doing it for them. CSA regularly refers shooters to Dominion Range and to Grééntops and am sure they do the same for CSA. CSA has former employees of both organizations on its staff as well as numerous other law enforcement and military training facilities. All are welcome...

Do any of the ranges cater to high school and college level competitive shooters? If they're not doing so already it seems like it would be a nice idea if at least one of them would work with the schools in the area on developing and running shooting programs possibly in conjunction with USA Shooting.

That is a great question! CSA has reached out to the private schools, mostly military such as Fork Union and will hopefully be sponsoring their State Championship this year. They have started a small bore competition that has quickly taken off and hope to start approaching some of the public schools and offer gun safety classes which could then open the door for any parents who would like their kids exposed to the shooting sports. Attitudes are quickly changing these days and I think each of us as individual shooters should always look for an opportunity to get another child a "leg up" to the fun they can have in one of the fastest growing sports...

The Boy Scouts do a great job here also depending on the individual Scout Master and I think Cavalier Rifle and Pistol has some great programs they have run for years with 4-H and others...

Do any of your public high schools there offer shooting programs as varsity level sports ? Do the ranges allow for 3 position riflery?

We have them at some of the local high schools in my part of the state (Northern VA). Woodson, Robinson, and West Potomac are three high schools that have teams in Fairfax County. They generally compete against schools in DC and Maryland. I was just curious if this is done anywhere else in VA. I think it's the only sport where boys and girls compete against one another. The girls usually do better.

One of the biggest obstacle to these programs seems to be practice space. A centrally located range could solve that.
