I will be moving to RVA in June from the midwest for a residency. My work will be spent between St. Mary’s Hospital of Richmond and 6900 Forest Ave in Richmond.

I would like to commute 10-15 minutes (max 20) and my fiance will more than likely work near downtown. My number one priority is a safe area and am looking for a 2 bedroom, hopefully less than $1000. Would Henrico or Tuckahoe fit the bill? Are there newer, nicer complexes near Forest Ave? Any recommendations on areas or apartment complexes (or town homes, if they'd be in the budget...)

Thank you!

hmm. Probably easiest to start looking in the Museum District.

I didn't realize St. Mary's had a residency program, learn something every day.

Thanks for the response.

How is Henrico overall? There has been some mixed reviews about Canterberry Square Apartments. What would be a decent suburb, near my location, offering new properties than Museum District?

Tuckahoe is an older part of town, but it's still Henrico. I looked at a townhouse in Canterbury Square when I moved to VA and all I can say is eh. I would recommend Short Pump or Glen Allen. Both are in Henrico, very nice areas, close to everything and you can be downtown in 20min. The Glen Allen, Short Pump area is loaded with new modern places and regardless of what the locals will tell you, their very affordable.

There is a new complex nearby - 3600 broad. No idea what it's like, but the location is good

Horsepen Road Area-- it's probably 5 minutes from both!
