I will be moving to richmond in 2 weeks but will be visiting next week. I need ideas of places to take the kids. I don't mind driving an 1hour or so.
Thank you

Age question is a good one. Younger kids will enjoy any of the Children's Museum of Richmond outposts; the main one downtown has the most to offer. If you have teenagers who want to shop, take them to Short Pump Town Center, or downtown to Carytown if they're into a more artsy scene. If the weather is still cold, we have lots of those bouncy places, and a trampoline gym -- can't remember the name, but it's pretty cool. There's also a climbing wall gym. The Science Museum has stuff to appeal to all ages, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has great exhibits, if your kids are into art.

I agree, PickPatrick's list is good. I'd add Lewis Ginter, it's one of our absolute favorites, and your little ones will love the children's garden. But Maymont, LG, and the zoo are not much fun this time of year, unless this is warm for you, i.e., your a northerner!

The 13 year old may enjoy the civil war museums throughout the area especially if it's a boy. The younger ones I would agree with the other posters.

We were visiting a month ago or so with a 3.5 year old and a 2 year old. The Children's Museum is awesome, and you can use the stamp on your hand for admission that day to the other two locations - Bon Air and Short Pump, I think. This sounds like a crazy idea, multiple Children's Museums in one day, but we were there on a particularly rainy day and did two of them! It was great!
