This question appears to have come up several years ago, but there is nothing recent. Does anyone see a big difference between Comcast and Verizon? What would you suggest for a house in Richmond that is a stone's throw south of the James River? Thanks!

If most of the items you use are wifi, then go with Comcast. FIOS promised speed only hits the advertised speeds during wired operation. TV wise, once all the promotional pricing comes to an end they're pretty much in same. Phone wise, use a smartphone.

FIOS is the better choice for reliability and wired speeds, both can potentially offer good packages for new customers but look at the cost when the initial period expires.

Comcast. Better wide open net speed (Verizon loves sneaky ways to throttle) and way better cable service. I won't even mention FiOS' garbage on demand selections vs Comcast. I'm on FiOS right now after promising myself I'd never go back but Comcast didn't want to even com close to their deal this time around and although I get a better upload speed which is very useful for what I do (really doesn't apply do most people) Comcast's service was better hands down and I will be going back once I'm eligible for promotional pricing again.

I have been a fios customer for close to 15 years. In the middle of my last contract, I was sent an email telling me that my router would no longer be supported unless I ponied up an extra $10 a month. My other choice was to buy a new router from them at extra cost. It seems that with Verizon, a contract is a one way street. I wonder what their reaction would have been if I had told them that I was going to start paying them $10 a month less despite being on a contract? I hope Comcast is better and at least honors their contracts. I am signed up until November and am looking for alternatives. I need high speed internet and can live with less tv and no land line. Suggestions are welcomed, thanks.

These companies are in a neck and neck race to see which is the biggest bottom feeder.

And it's going to be a long race.

I know this doesn't help, but I'm not sure there's a right answer.
