Hello,

I wanted to ask about the quality of the overall healthcare system in the area. It's subjective, I know. Considering a relo. Schools sound good in Chesterfield and Henrico. Homes prices are great as well. Proximity to DC and water access is also good. Thanks

VCU Health System, Bon Secour, and HCA all have strong facilities in the Richmond area. Many gain national accolades annually. Healthcare is a major force in the local economy.

I have two homes as far apart in the U.S. as one can get, and I would definitely rank Virginia (in general) and Richmond (specifically) as an excellent healthcare region.

The systems mentioned above are all outstanding when you compare to cities/regions of similar size. Richmond is not a top-tier city, but enjoys a reputation that exceeds its demographics.

Embrace it while you can.

When we lived in Fredericksburg I fought to have my son receive his specialty care at VCU (still MCV to those of us who have been around for a while!). VCU was considered out-of-network for us (Tricare), but I stood my ground and got it approved. My son has had three operations there (one pretty serious), and receives his orthodontic care there and I am VERY pleased!
