Hi,

I'm researching a possible move to the suburbs of Richmond (Glen Allen, Chester, Chesterfield ect...) and was just wondering how welcoming people are to new comers, especially northers?

Are there a good amount of people that move to the area or is it out of place to see a "non-native" there?

Anybody move there from up north? What was your experience?

Also I'm looking for a non denominational, casual, "come as you are" church that is integrated/racially diverse. Any in the area you guys can recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Can't help on the church question but VA, meaning Richmond as well, is made up of transients all over the state so I doubt you will see any issues. With the strong military and federal govt presence here you'll see many from all around the US and from foreign countries as well.

For the last two decades or more, most Virginians were not born in the state.
Most transplants are from the North (PA, NJ, MD in particular). You’ll be fine anywhere in VA and no one will even notice you in Richmond.

Faith Landmarks in Glen Allen is a good non-denominational church that is well integrated. It was a bit too large for me but I enjoyed it and found the message to be good.

You forgot Korea and El Salvador. Korean is the number 2 language spoken in VA behind the Central American Spanish dialect.

RVA is the local term for Richmond, and most people who use the term mean somewhere in the metro area (including large sections of Henrico and Chesterfield counties). You see RVA bumper stickers all over.

Moved here from Boston, there is absolutely no shortage of northeast transplants here! No issues with anything. Great place, cheap, good schools (as long as you're not in the city proper) and on the north / south thing, as somebody that's traveled a lot and done a ton of work down south... Central VA is NOT the South!
