Hi all, I’m planning to move to the Richmond area from Florida for a job in the next few months. I’d like To be in an area with a moderate progressive vibe. I’d like some ideas as to some areas/neighborhoods that might be good outside of the city center with access to shopping, hiking, biking, and activities. I prefer a townhome, but would be willing to be in a house if the spot is right. I know there are some new neighborhoods popping up, but I haven’t heard so much good about new builds at this time. TYIA.

Thanks. Those are a couple of the areas I’ve been looking at. I’ve been told that short pump is over priced, but maybe it’s just where people want to live.

Check out Bellevue, Lakeside, and Stratford Hills area. They do have yards, but you mentioned a lot of outside activities you like to do. Many have small yards.

Thanks so much.I’ll check them out. I went to Richmond 10 days ago and found the Short Pump area, Glenn Allen, and some older/renovated areas in Richmond very nice. I love the trees and rolling terrain. I didn’t see much in the South of Richmond (Chesterfield area) that I liked, but maybe I need to look further.

You're looking in the right areas. I would also look at Midlothian, in between Short Pump and Chesterfield. The west side of Richmond is pretty, the vibe you're looking for, full of trees/forests, its where I'd go if I moved to town.

Midlothian is becoming an overdeveloped, underfunded ****hole. Thousands of new apartment/condo units, no commensurate improvements to roads, schools, or any other infrastructure. It's a racket for the Board of Supervisors.

Chesterfield County and Midlothian I don't think until this year had any public transportation, and consistently refused to join or contribute to the GRTC bus system.

I thought Richmond had a problem with gangs and it was so bad that drivers were warned to stay out of Richmond I95 rest areas to avoid being a crime victim. Is this still true?

No, that is not true. That's dumb.
