Passenger numbers are healthy with one airline getting 150000 passengers a year. What is the problem? Charlottesville a much smaller city thrives in air traffic and in the near future should pass Roanoke with ease! Lynchburg with even 3 or 4 airlines with the current traffic could produce revenue past Roanoke and Charlottesville. This all ties in to politics and Lynchburg Demigraphics, but lets face it Lynchburg is on the rise in every area possible. Student population is healthy.. Citizen population increases every year. So What's up! The airport is the only shy point.

That is grossly unfair and the area should fund the tower until this nonsense ends with the new budget.

Without a staffed control tower at Lynchburg Regional, I don't think the chances of increased commercial
passenger traffic is realistic. On the contrary, I think people will decide to drive somewhere else to catch a flight. As a matter of fact a large percentage of Lynchburg area passengers have been driving to other airports. Since there are no more unions I would not be surprised if the airlines are not behind some scheme
to close these 149 control towers. With security concerns I think this is a dumb move by the government.

My guess, it is more than just money. I would be surprised if there is no ATC 3or 4 months from now, but this move came down from the FAA very quickly. Liberty might be considering an ATC based on their past record. If they do, the moon bats who are always discrediting Liberty in the local rag will start blaming Liberty for the entire ATC contract program closure, saying that they greased the wheels with some politician so they could start another program. There are some real wackos commenting in the local paper!
Lest you get overly worried, the fourth busiest airport in MO, home of a very large flight school, has no ATC. Same is true of Greenville, NC, and now New Bern, which has more commercial traffic than Lynchburg due to the proximity of military bases.
