I just subscribed to the Roanoker to see what it's all about. What are your opinions of this magazine? I like the article on the best doctors. It says "Roanoke CIty: Highest Taxes in Virginia?"

I'd say its an "OK" publication; for most of the year (monthly mag.) the issues appear to do nothing more than rank every conceivable service offered in Roanoke Valley (Healthcare, resturants, places to live, lawyers, you name it..); Personally I find these ubiqutious ranking issues to be somewhat silly - and (in my opinion) an attempt to just provide easy filler for a glossed up magazine with little real content...

Default The Roanoker

The Roanoker started out as a City Magazine, highlighting the "good life"
with articles on "upscale" life in Roanoke. I subsribed for many years and I enjoyed the articles on new cultural offerings here. They had many good reporters who informed its readers of important local issues, without personal attacks. I am sure the recent article on "Queen Darlene" helped increase their sales without regard to personal assaults against this woman. I might mention again the word woman written by a man. This one article has created
a legacy for this rag and I hope it folds soon! I will never pick it up again!
