The yards on the west side of town are pretty good sized. Some of the neighborhoods around Kearney have the typical 1/4 acre plots one would find anywhere in suburbia. The Flats is a nice area of that town, too, and some of the houses are on at least a half acre of land.

Parts of W. Irondequoit have issues with bugs in the summer, and deer, but if folks are willing to put up with that it's a very nice part of the county.

I want to thank everyone so much for the very thought filled suggestions. I'm curious - what's wrong with Lima? It looks like you can actually get a nice property for a reasonable price and the taxes aren't insane. Are people kind of exclusive-ish there?
We did like the Ogden area - Irondenquoit was one of our original considerations as also.

Lima and Avon are both nice, and the schools out there are good ones. Yes, you can get decent-sized land plots out that way for a good price, similar to Bloomfield in Ontario Cty.

I wonder if the OP would consider Victor/Farmington. I would think there would be plenty of homes with some room in terms of land size. Victor schools are good and the area is growing.
