Rochester was recently rated as the 8th smartest city in the country (again). It's a great place for high tech businesses and precision manufacturing. Lots of research-- Kodak, Xerox, B&L, UR, RIT, etc. One of the highest producers of patents per capita and I believe about 18 colleges and universities in the metro.

LOL

It sounds like they cherry picked statistics to get results. What smart person actually uses their library card with the invention of the internet?

Charleston has more bachelors and masters degrees and is filled with people who didn't choose to stick in dead northeast towns like Rochester. How are they and many other places not on the list? LOLOL

I believe that out of NY metros, Ithaca, NYC and Albany-Schenectady-Troy have a higher percentage of people, 25 and older, with at least a Bachelors degree.

Here is an article the mention the metro's patent output: WAMC | Northeast Public Radio

Thanks for sharing! It is good to know that we are smarter than Syracuse and all the surrounding cities.

Having a degree and being able to memorize things doesn't always mean that you are smart. It's what you do with this "intelligence". Look at all of the patents. Look at all the jobs and new companies that have been created in Rochester. Some people just run away, not able to see all of the opportunities here. Did you ever hear the story "acres of diamonds"?
