This program gives dogs a break from the shelter environment. You can pick up a dog and go for a hike, go to a park, or just bring the dog to your home and hang out for a few hours. It reduces stress for the dogs and it's a very low commitment way to help a shelter dog. There are just a couple rules: don't introduce the dog to other animals and don't leave the dog anywhere unsupervised.

That sounds like a great idea, and most likely will lead to many more adoptions

In another thread, a long-time resident was telling me how much Rochester has changed since the 1950s and 60s. I ended up watching a bunch of youtube videos showing Rochester and Monroe County during that mid-century time period, and one of the videos included scenes from Lollypop Farm. I had heard of Lollypop Farm, so when I saw it in the video I thought wow it's been around for a long time how cool. Then when I saw this thread, it kind of reminded me to look up "when did Lollypop Farm start?" Apparently it's been going since 1873! Incredible!

I agree that Doggy Day Out is a fantastic idea! Awesome for the dogs and also for the people who volunteer. And JWRocks makes a great point, I can definitely see this leading to more adoptions.

You won't see me there, though, as I'd be tempted to bring ALL the dogs home with me..........
