I heard the tail end of a broadcast, this afternoon, on channel 8's 4 o'clock news, and they were talking about potential plans for a casino coming to Rochester. Something about the Governor introducing/approving legislation that would approve it.

I’m curious if this is to offset the Seneca money used for the new Bills Stadium?

To be fair, it sounds like the Senecas have been looking to get into the Rochester area for a while and may have used the deal above as leverage to get into the market.

You got THAT right!!

And while I've said this before, I think I'll toss it in the mix, one more time....I'm not much of a "stick and ball sports" kind of guy. My interests are more into motorsports. But even though there are also a number of motorsports enthusiasts like myself in NY, do you ever see any "public funding" earmarked for motorsports facilities?? NO, the only thing motorsports enthusiasts get, is being shoved off into the remote areas of the state, and even then, get harassed as being "too noisy"...........like 50,000 members of the "Bills Mafia" are quiet as a church mouse...........

This woman is clueless in how to do her job. How about some job creation, not sucking even more money out of your constituents pockets? Just going to create more home foreclosures and bankruptcies. And more dependency, of course.

I would support something like reviving Watkins Glen to it's former prominence. The state has the money.

BTW, did you go to the Rochester Street Machines show last Sunday?

You bring up a good point. Sometimes, as I lie in bed, trying to fall asleep, I can't help but think what the future may hold. And it scares me to think that if inflation continues at a silly rate, I might be forced out of my paid off house, just due to increased overhead to remain in place.

No, I didn't go to the 'Street Machines' show. I tend to go to the "cruise ins" at the Shriner's Temple in Webster, as it's closer to home, as well as I have several friends who like to go there.....

A related article, Del Lago concerns contribute to Seneca gaming deal stalling: https://auburnpub.com/business/local...9530b4d89c1102

From the above article:

'And Rochester Mayor Malik Evans released a statement on Monday stating that that “there are already numerous casinos in the Rochester area. My focus remains on meaningful opportunities that create a vibrant Rochester economy focused on the jobs of the 21st century.”'

If by 'numerous' he means 'none', then I guess that'd be an accurate assessment. Del Lago is 47 miles east of downtown Rochester, as stated in this same article. I wouldn't call Waterloo part of the Rochester area, however expansively the Rochester metro may be defined (it's in fact in Seneca Cty, so outside the metro even technically speaking)

I play poker for a living so I'm not steadfastly anti-casino, although I recognize that they can have substantial negative impacts on already-downtrodden communities...I also have a bit of a weakness for blackjack and sports betting, lol.

The article you linked certainly succeeded in communicating the complexity of the situation, if nothing else.

From the article ckh posted...'this woman' isn't even directly involved in the negotiations:

'The deal negotiated by Hochul’s top aides and the Seneca Nation is now in peril. (Hochul has recused herself from the negotiations because of a potential conflict of interest.)'

Hochul's husband is an executive for Delaware North, and I believe they are providers of concessions at WNY racinos, which are semi-competitors for/of the Senecas. I'm almost certain that was the reason she recused herself, based on what I've read elsewhere
