I couldn't find a thread with uniquely Rochester style foods, or with a Rochester twist so I'll throw this out with a list of where to get a "Garbage Plate". I've got to admit, I had a Steve T's (I believe Nick's nephew) the other day, and it was dam good. Got to get to Nick's soon.

I'd argue any number of places do a good job. Steve's was my go-to and he was a great guy, not as good as it used to be. Never been to the Tahou's downtown, and that place is not doing well.
Rochester-centric stuff common on menus around town, and which are not as common elsewhere, French-ed meals and Marsala. Chicken and other "French", ___________ Marsala, etc.

Someone told me today they felt nick tahou’s has been going downhill, and they prefer the ones at Lake Hots. I’ve never had a garbage plate myself, so just passing on what I’ve heard.
Personally, I am a huge fan of Perri’s pizza. Just enough crust to keep me interested, great cheese, really good spicy cup pepperoni. I’m more of a pan crust or Chicago deep dish guy, but Perri’s does it right at a price that’s in line with other pizza joints. I’ve read that this is technically “Buffalo style” pizza, but why let Buffalo always take the credit for everything WNY?
Speaking of pizza, the house brand Wegmans frozen pizzas are delicious for $6.
I’m sure Tahou’s garbage plate might be tasty to some. I’m a modular eater (Dad said I take after his Dad).
I like the Zweigler’s White Hots found at Wegmans. Hopefully someday they’ll come a bit closer to where we live.
There’s one in Frederick, Md but you won’t be able to find beer there like in Virginia.

Calabrese's or something like that, on Buffalo rd, in Gates ships all things Rochester. I think there are a couple other places that do that.

I usually buy the dough, and ingredients, in the deli area, and make my own. Last week I made Calzones, and Chicago deep dish pizza. mmmm
I've also used the dough to make sub rolls too. Very convienient.

Hate paying shipping costs when we can drive down there but … we just don’t go in that direction. I suppose I could get them [Zweiglers] in Frederick but my spouse not too enthused as he likes perusing the beers further down in the Northern Virginia area. That’s why I keep hoping they’ll at least open up a new store in the Winchester, Virginia area. One can only hope, right? That, and an Abbott’s Custard. How nostalgic of me. . [Actually, JW., who started this thread]. When we lived in Roch., my brother and I would walk home from school. On the warmer days, we’d see if we had enough money. Sometimes we could only get one and share.

You might be in luck. A few years ago I heard from family ties that a developer was in negotiations to bring a Wegmans to Frederick County, VA. It was to be part of one of the new suburban developments in or near Winchester. I am unsure of the current status, though. Perhaps the pandemic delayed things or Wegmans shifted focus to back to the Mid-Atlantic as they seem to have with their recent NYC metro expansion strategy, but I can confirm talks were held!
