Considering that no major sports team is in Rochester,I was just curious who the favorite baseball, football, basketball, and hockey teams are.

I'm guessing Yankees,Buffalo,Knicks,Sabres. I personally like the Steelers in football, and the Islanders in hockey. Also if anyone can tell me if an out of area team is popular here.I have noticed alot of Steeler fans in the area.

I'm not much of a sports nut, but I like the Sabres.

The Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, and Yankees all have a large following in Rochester. Strangely enough the rival teams such as the Miami Dolphins and Boston Red Sox have a bit of a following as well. I wouldn't say any one basketball team is the favorite here, except for the Syracuse Orange. If we are talking the NBA then I know many people have jumped on the Lebron James/Cleveland Cavaliers Bandwagon.

Even though it's Canada, i'm surprised no one really is a Toronto fan in baseball or basketball here or maybe I just haven't run into them yet.

Our family are Bills/Yankees fans here. My dad is a die hard Steelers/Baltimore Orioles fan, and my sister and brother in law are Patriots/Red Sox fans...so we cover pretty much the north east teams

None of us are too big on basketball or hockey....

For a lot of people, disdain for "da city" and distaste for the Yankees run together.

Baseball: Yankees and Red Sox, the two rival "America's teams", with some Twins and Orioles fans in the mix (the current and former affiliates of the Red Wings).

Football: lots of Bills fans, with a not so insignificant Cowboys/Dolphins/Patriots (anti-Bills, seemingly whoever is doing the best is the team du jour) contingent. Old school Browns fans (from the pre-Bills era) are still around and there's more than a few 'New York Football Giants' fans (coach Tom Coughlin is from nearby Waterloo). There's a couple of bars that cater to Steelers fans, so they must have a local following (being SB champs doesn't hurt) - but from my observations they seem pretty rare 'out in the wild'.

Basketball: no idea, I'll agree with the Cavaliers due to LeBron James. I remember seeing a lot of Kobe Bryant Lakers jerseys in the past as well.

Hockey: Sabres, hands down. I get (good natured) jeers in public when I wear my Leafs shirt (a few years back a LOT of Toronto's players were ex-Sabres). Surprisingly very few Devils or Rangers fans, despite having local players on those teams. The Panthers don't get much love either, since most Amerks fans would rather see the affiliation with the Sabres rekindled (the Amerks sub par season this year didn't help).

Rochester, and really Upstate New York in general, is not so much about any specific NBA team. Syracuse basketball reigns supreme. Even those here who DO follow NBA basketball likely have Syracuse loyalty above all else.

False.

The closer you get to NYC/Boston the more Knicks/Celtics fans.
