No big deal, back at the turn of the 20th century there was a boom in agriculture and immigration.
So there were people filing on every square foot of ground they could.

When the drought hit in the 30's, those on less desirable pieces couldn't make a living and left. Nowadays it's the folks coming in and building a mcmansion on a small piece of ground, finding out there aren't any jobs, then leaving.

Same thing...

Almost like here, in the 1800's the population was triple, there were mills and a tannery on the creek. The pollution must have been horrendous from the tannery.

You know you live in a small town:

when you find a cow sleeping in your garage and you know who it belongs to.

When there are no stray dogs cause everybody know the name of any dog walking down the street

When every kid in town has at least 3 uncles in common

Hey, Woodrow, congrats on the contest win.

True story, happened this week:

Strange vehicle pulls into your yard, first you ask DH who they are, then when he doesn't know you meet them at the front door, closed so they can't see inside.

They ask you if you're the ones with the donkeys for sale on CraigsList. You say no, then ask for the phone number for the ad.

You retreat inside, Google the number, find out they were one digit off on the house number and totally blew the street name, and return to the porch, giving them the correct house number, street name, and directions to get there.

You watch the three men in a mid nineties regular cab F150 drive away.

You then find the ad on CL for two full size donkeys and remark to DH, 'Oh, I didn 't know she had donkeys up there (you know who's place it was from the ad). Unless they're going to ride them back they won't be going in that truck.'

The truck, empty, goes past your place heading out half an hour later.

News, Police kill charging cow who sent officer airborne.

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) — Police in Mount Vernon, Washington, killed an agitated Angus cow that rampaged through town, tossing a police officer into the air and tap-dancing on a patrol car.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports (Cow runs amok, attacks Mount Vernon police before being killed - Goskagit.com: All Access) that police spokeswoman Shannon Haigh says the cow apparently escaped from a farm outside the city limits. It was first reported in a Wal-Mart parking lot last Friday.

Seriously, killed it? Did they not have a country boy who could corral it? Dang cityots........

YKYLIASTW the power goes out and everyone in town goes for a ride all over to see if anyone has lights on to determine if it's the big transmission line to the east that's down or the other one from the south.

I just fired up the generator, it's been out since nine last night.
