Recommendations for places to live near Willows, CA (Sacramento, Redding: to rent, house)

Hello...

I'm relocating to work in Willows, CA and I would like to find a house to rent, or buy in the surrounding areas. I like the Plumas Lake area with the new construction in the last 10 years.

Can anyone give me some recommendations and local's they lived in within a 1 hr commute to Willows.

Plumas Lake is closer to about an hour and a half from Willows. Your commute would probably be about the same if you lived on the northern edge of Sacramento, in someplace like North Natomas. If you're willing to tolerate a 90 minute commute, North Natomas might meet your needs--ten years ago it was all just floodplain and rice fields.

Willows is good quiet town. Not much happens there, good or bad. The main negative is there isn't much convenient in Willows. There is an independent grocery store, a few fast food restaurants along the freeway, and not much else.

Colusa is another quiet town with not much going on. It is clean and quiet, like Willows. I has a few more things over Willows, like a Safeway, Rite Aid, and a slightly larger diversity in the retail sector. Most of it is independent, which I think is kind of neat. It is also closer to Yuba City where there are quite a few grocery stores and major retailers. Colusa is also about an hour from Sacramento.

Another option is Chico, about 45 minutes away. Chico is around 100,000 people, has a good selection of chain and local retail, specialty grocers, if you are in search of unusual and organic type things. It even has a Trader Joe's. Chico is probably the best location if you want a touch of urban lifestyle in close proximity. The rest of the Sacramento Valley is primarily small town-rural until you get up to Redding.

I guess Oroville and Red Bluff are options. I like them from a historical perspective. However, both towns are economically depressed and the people in most of their neighbourhoods aren't exactly sophisticated.

What about Roseville?

Roseville is nearly 2 hours from Willows. If the commute to Sacramento isn't long enough for your taste, Roseville is an extra 20 miles away.

No way you can do that commute from Roseville, and Plumas Lake is a very long ride too.

I wouldn't be so quick to write off Chico, the city is actually very nice and has some reasonably priced homes built within the past 10 years. I'd advise you to at least give it a good look before you dismiss it.

I think the person has not spent much time in Willows. Willows has a Super Walmart on the other side of the freeway. Walmarts property goes right to the south bound exit.

Getting north the Redding-Anderson-Cottenwood, slighty farther than Chico, it's all freeway, where Chico is partly rural roads and and can be very foggy.

What are your criteria? You just say you like Plumas Lake. Because it has new development? What about Chico? Corning?

If you're thinking about renting, then you should consider renting in Willows and having a reasonable commute for a while. Save up some money and take your time to consider what other towns there are in the area that you like.

I'd personally prefer Chico, but I REALLY don't think that I could stomach an extra 40 minute commute each way to live in a place I slightly preferred.
