So I'm on a partial ui claim, meaning I still have a job but work is really slow so I've been collecting benefits until work picks up. In the meantime I've had a bad knee for a while but couple weeks ago it gave out on me and it's really hard to walk right now and might need to have surgery. I understand you can't do a UI claim and SDI claim at the same time obviously and that the SDI claim you can't be able to work and the UI claim you have to be looking for work but in my case with the partial claim, I not required to look for work bc I technically still have a job. Is there anybody who has been in this position that can give me some advice so I don't go ahead and try to claim a SDI claim and end up getting dropped from both, bc that would be my luck. Thank you in advance for any insight!!

You need to get a Dr to approve you for the SDI claim, once you have that, submit it & stop the UI. Make sure they don't overlap. They might call you to find out more.

I'm assuming they contact my employer but can't give out any medical info? Is that true? What do they tell my boss? How (if anything) does it affect him? Rates? Company?

I don't think they call employers for disability unless it's work related or workers comp. SDI is funded by your payroll deduction so it shouldn't have an impact on your company. UI is different.
