OK, I want to take some friends/clients out to dinner as a thank you. They want something "not steak house, not Italian". Any good suggestions on Asian, Mediterranean, maybe Indian restaurants that have a nice atmosphere and great food? Don't mind paying more for a good place.

Thanks!

Ok not sure about the name of this place or even its food (believe it's mediterranean) but there is a great restaurant on the corner of 18th and L ST. Wburg will know it for sure. There is a nice atrium in the back with jazz music at times. Everytime I walk by I see people dressed very nice in business/casual and they all appear to be really enjoying themselves. It always strikes me as a place where businessmen would bring their clients.

I know I am not being much help here, but there are also two beautiful mansions that have been converted to restaurants. One is on 19th and T, the other I believe is around 13th and H, or I? Again, I am sure Wburg will know the name and location. I would think either place would be good for a client.

Congrats! You must have sold a big ol' house! .

Thanks! They are good friends and moved in around the corner so this is a bit of a celebration for all of us.

Wburg if you know the names of these places I would appreciate it!

The place at 18th and L is Aioli, which I love, but the service can occasionally put people off. (The owner is kind of a character. I like him, but he's not universally beloved.) Food is great.

Kru on 26th and J Street is a fun place to take people who like sushi. (It's not strictly a sushi place but their most interesting dishes include raw fish.)

Red Rabbit's food is good (if a little basic farm-to-fork) and they have my favorite cocktails in town, if that's an interest.

I really enjoy Magpie -- I think their food is on par with the best restaurants in town -- but it is a little crowded and casual and noisy for some people's taste.

Not familiar with any converted restaurant at 19th and T Street. The place at 13th and H, Restaurant Thir13en, closed recently.

I'd suggest Anatolian Table at 24th and K Street (they also have a location in Rocklin) for Mediterranean food, the food is terrific but the place is deceptively casual in appearance--usually quiet, unlike Magpie. I'd second Kru. If you're going a little more fancy, Mulvaney's B&L on 19th and L is hard to beat--they tend to be my "restaurant to impress people" destination of choice.

I looked up Aioli and made a reservation there. Turns out my guests have been wanting to try it out, so it should be fun. I'm interested to see the owner...

For future refe4rence, when my wife and I ate here about seven or eight years ago before we moved it was very good.

La Provence Restaurant & Terrace

We dined at Aioli a number of times and enjoyed it. During the day check out Zanzibar Trading Company cadi-corner from it.

Thanks everyone. We went to Aioli and really enjoyed it. It's Tapas, and the waiter offered to choose our selections which we agreed to. He served a round of cold/appetizers, a round of fish/seafood, a round of meats, then a round of desserts. Everything was excellent. Great atmosphere sitting outside. Approx $50 per person including tip and corkage fee. We will be back.
