I know that San Francisco and Alameda County are relatively pest-free, but I've heard thing start getting buggier as you move east toward Sacramento. This is a major concern for me and I'm trying to be careful about which area I look for housing in based somewhat on this.

Can anyone help me point out around where you start to see major crawling bugs - for me that means large spiders, black widows, centipedes, large silverfish and anything other than ants and roaches. I'm not concerned about mosquitos or flies.

Thank you!

What you know about SF and Alameda is wrong. There are pests like that everywhere in CA. I was bitten by a black widow as a kid in Sunnyvale. Silverfish, yep. Centipedes, yep.

If you live in a home get a pest company to come by and spray. If an apartment, get the aerosol version.

You encountered those 3 bugs in Sunnyvale?

I lived for a decade in SF and never saw any of those things and most reports here say there is nothing but a few ants in the East Bay, so that is what I was going on. Thanks for your report!
