Sacramento is awesome, I love this place. I am 22 and I have lived here my whole life except for when I attended college in Santa Barbara. Sacramento is like a lot of American cities, and has many city problems, but it possess' a few unique attractions. My favorite aspect of the city is its extensive parkways. It is February right now and the river is a beautiful area, I love to take my dog for walks in the rain and enjoy the wildlife. There are tons of birds, I saw a coyote today, deer up the ying yang, wild turkeys and occasionally mountain lions. As far as bike trails go, Sacramento has the best facility's of anywhere I have ever been. I have ridden from my house near Fair Oaks, all the way to downtown. Also I have gone the other direction from Fair Oaks to Folsom Lake. I love to explore off the paved bike trails on my mountain bike, I probably know every strip of dirt from Lake Natomas to Racho Cordova. Only problems I have ever had down there is the occasional drunk and or drugged out psycopath roaming the trails. I'm not a small guy, so they tend to stay away from me, but my sister always wants me to come with her on her jog's when she visits, and I don't blame her. Well the scenery is beautiful, and I love the area, I may be slightly biased because I live in Fair Oaks, but I like Sacramento all in all.

The American River in Sacramento also supports ten's of thousands of King Salmon and sea-run Steelhead Trout spawning right in the middle of a major metropolitan area. Quite amazing and unique. A wild and pure river surrounded by hundreds of thousands of people. Put on your waders and catch a nice fat steelhead for dinner. Always fun to take your out of town guests to Nimbus to see the salmon and big trout jumping up the ladders. The other wild strains use the river sand and rock for natural spawning.

Sacramento will never wow people. We are not flashy. We have the goods though. A wildlife corridor that is second to none. Right here in River City.

Where are some nice places to live that let you walk and jog on the parkway without having to drive there?

Default Nice places to walk a dog

I know of lots of nice places to walk my dog near Fair Oaks. But it really depends where you live, if you don't want to drive. I know where I start, is the Fair Oaks red bridge, which is a pedestrian only bridge, on... Bridge Street. If you know the area, start at the intersection of Sunrise Avenue and Fair Oaks Blvd. Follow Fair Oaks Blvd. until it turns into Bridge street and continue to the end of the road and you will find the bridge. This gives you access to lots of nice paths, and the bike trail, along the American River. You can also access this same region from the other side of the river, which would preclude you to living in Gold River if you actually wanted to walk.
