Any suggestions? I want to go/do something fun, but not with a super young, crazy partying crowd. I am 29, the hubby is 32. We'd like to do some drinking, but want to be some where classy with people our own age or older. Any suggestions? What are you doing to bring in the New Year?

Getting out of here and going to New York!

Is that what you're doing? You lucky lucky person you! I would love to, but can't afford it. I keep trying to get the friends together to rent a house in Lake Tahoe, but no takers yet, and it is too expensive to do only as a couple (and of course all of the hotels rooms are long gone by now).

I've done the Tahoe bit before and have to say it's awesome. Costly, but great. As for Sac though, probably not a whole heck of a lot going on. The best bet, stay in, buy some nice wine, make a good dinner, sit back and watch the ball drop!

I am definitely up for your suggestion (the wine, at home thing) but the hubby wants to "party." I was thinking maybe Harlow's? What do you think? Have you been to Jackson Rancheria? I haven't been there but was thinking maybe of going there with my fun parents and getting a room there for the night.

Harlow's will probably be the same old thing. I personally would avoid it. Never been out to Jackson Rancheria, but I can see where that would be a little more enjoyable. Powerhouse Pub in Old Folsom is always a good time!

I'm not sure sure you will like it, but the Professionals Guild New Years Eve party may be what you are looking for. It is the biggest elegant New Years Eve party in Sacramento and is usually featured on Channel 3. More than 1000 typically attend. There is a wide age range from 21 to 71!. Couples and singles are welcome. The party is unique in that there are two bands as well as a DJ. The bands play old school rock, Latin, Disco, R&B from the 70's, 80's and 90's. The DJ does the same but adds the best hits from the current top 40. You get party favors, free Casino gaming tickets, 2 free drink tickets, a champaign toast, a magician, exhibits and prizes -- the entire first floor of the Hilton Hotel is dedicated to the New Years Eve party. The room rates at the Hilton Hotel are quite reasonable for New Years, but increase in price as we get closer to New Years. They have been sold out the last several years, so it is best to reserve a room early if that's what you want. Driving on New Years is something that many people want to avoid. To be safe, if you need to drive, you may want to pick up a disposable breath tester (available at the party.)

You can see a YouTube video showing last years Professionals Guild Sacramento New Years Eve Party. You can see it at:

my best new years have always just been with friends a home parties

but I was 29 and did it in Old Sac and really liked it - tons of people walking around and drink specials everywhere - plus you go to theolder clubs not the dumb ones

I also have done New Year on top of (gosh I don't remember which hotel) but it was one of the swanky hotels downtown - they have amazing parties and room specials - very romantic...and can see the Old Sac frieworks too

so check around the hotels - I bet they are already selling the tickets
