I've been looking to buy a home in the Pollock Pines area and noticed Grizzly Flats. It looks really pretty, but being a single female, is GF a safe place to live? It's remote and I like that but do worry about being safe. I also don't want to live in a trashy area. Would I be better off buying in Pollock Pines?

Thanks for your help.

I saw your other post; are you leaving Hidden Valley Lake? If so, mind if I ask why?

Of course you can ask! My son is moving to Tahoe so it would be a really long drive to visit him from HVL. I'm really torn about leaving this amazing place but I'm considering it. I was hoping to find someone around Grizzly Flats that could tell me about the area.

There's a Facebook page called EDCW Chat that would be good for you to join and ask

Grizzly Flats is a pretty nice area, I used to deliver packages out there. For the most part some pretty nice houses and neighborhoods but a couple trashy houses like anywhere. With that said I've never been out there at night time but I would feel fine going off what I have seen in the daytime. Also if I remember correctly there's a Christian camp ground or something like that nearby which might mean something positive I guess. Oh also in the winter it does get some snow and the roads get icy. One of the times when I was out there there's a couple people that slid off the road.

Oh also I personally would rather live in Pollock Pines, much easier to get to the freeway and to Tahoe/Sacramento but Grizzly is much more remote feeling if that's a main thing.

It looks like Pollack Pines (3,980) and Grizzly Flats (3868) are at similar elevations, and pretty much line up on the map, so whatever happens weather wise in GF, happens in Pollack Pines too. It is beautiful up there.

GF is definitely further from 50. I wonder how the roads are holding up after this very wet winter. There was damage to many roads up there. Another good source of info is the CHP El Dorado County facebook page.

I've often thought about moving further up the hill, but I'm not really willing to do so as a single female either. I suppose it would be easier if one was renting, and therefore less homeowner responsibilities. I have a good friend who recently sold her place in Shaver Lake out of Fresno, it just go to be a huge burden dealing with winters alone. Add a fall, and a few broken bones, and it was time to move down the hill.
