For my husband, myself and our one year old baby we are paying $75.00 a month for water. WHY IS THIS SO EXPENSIVE? This is the "minimum amount" that the city of Independence is charging us.

We have a 3/4" meter, according to our bill.

Because everyone does different amounts of laundry, dishes, showers, etc. I would ideally like to know what the MINIMUM amount is that your city is charging you.

If you don't know, I'd still like to know what you pay each month

Thanks!

We don't have a minimum amount in Salem as it is based on usage. For our family of 4 with a house and lawn we water, we average $75 a month. Less in winter, more in summer.

THanks!

That's fairly comparable... we do have a home but given the weather the lawn is not being mowed right now.

$75 for two people and a little baby as a minimum still seems really high to me.

I don't know. I did tons and tons of laundry back then.

I do laundry and cook at home (dishes) and we do use water, no doubt. The part I take issue with is that this is the minimum. You cannot have a water bill in Independence for less than $70 plus a few $1 charges. It isn't the amount we are using that is hiking it up.

I've been looking online at what other towns/cities charge for minimum and Albany just recently raised theirs 3%. It is now a minimum of $41 a month. We are nearly DOUBLE.

I do appreciate your reply because it has me thinkinh *hoping* maybe we would be close to the $75 if there were no minimum.

In Salem, $75 will buy you (approx) 26,714 gallons of water
In Independence it will buy you 0 - 21,660 gallons

Water and sewer in Riddle is $130 a month. That's because the voters wouldn't approve a bond measure for the sewer plant upgrade, so they get to pay for it with their water bill.

I understand Portland's water bills will be horrible when the poop pipes are complete.

Wow, thought about retiring to Oregon but the water rates. Here in Ohio I pay $29.00 quarterly for water (no sewer). I'm almost afraid to ask about electicity rates.
