I'm originally from Iowa, and I'm sure you have already received enough information, but here's my perspective.
I have yet to use my winter parka in 2 winters. You know, the one for when the days starting out below zero and there's a slight 40 mph breeze going. My light coats with a hoodie occasionally thrown on to layer a bit.
You do need to shovel, it seems to get windy here before storms and then just drops snow. Once you move the snow, it stays there, unlike Iowa where you'd end up with several feet blowing back over.
The day of the storm it gets a bit slick, but it's really nothing compared to some roads I've driven on, seriously.
