I'm looking to come to SLC in late March/April for some hiking. Is the weather and conditions of the trails then conducive to hiking? What are some recommended spots close to the city?

The weather is so fickle that it's almost impossible to predict this far in advance. Just know that the average date of the last snowfall in Salt Lake City is April 18. That doesn't mean that we're particularly likely to get dumped on that late, but it is possible. Generally, by then, the snow at least melts fairly quickly when we do have a storm.

You may be limited to places like Ensign Peak and the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. Just cross your fingers that there will be a few more options available.

We go hiking any day of the week, all times of the year. You have to pick the trail correctly based upon the season and weather. Some of the better known trails in the canyons are not accessible (at least as hiking trails) due to snow at this time. But, there are plenty of hiking trails to keep you busy and plenty of hikers using them.

Partly as it is close to where we live - we hike to the wire mountain/reflector peak off of the Bonneville shoreline trail near the zoo (https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/u...unt-wire-trail) . You can extend it into a much longer hike if you walk the ridge into the emigration canyon.

At this time of the year, there will be some mud and snow. It could be the same or different in late March/April based upon the weather. Frankly, the day it snows is one of the best days to hike. This, or the Ensign Peak, would be good ones to hike during the time you are visiting.

Too early for the best hiking in the canyons near SLC that time of year. For hiking near SLC, I'd say June through October. But it is a fantastic time of year to go hiking farther south. Arches, Bryce, Zion would be wonderful in March/April. And although the hiking near SLC is beautiful, the hiking at the national parks farther south is absolutely unforgettable.
