I have been considering Sandy, Utah as a possible place to live when I relocate to Salt Lake City next year. I am having trouble trying to get a feel for the area. It seems to have a diverse housing stock and some convenient big-box shopping and strip malls. I would appreciate it if I could get some opinions and descriptions of the Sandy area and some links to information and photos of the area.

It's pretty more expensive then other areas further north like North Salt Lake, Bountiful.

I-15 runs through the City. Depending on how far East you live, you can be downtown in 15-20 minutes. Sandy's housing boom was during the 1970's-1980's, so there is a lot of older housing stock available. In the 1990's-2000's, luxury homebuilders have been "infilling" the vacant areas. So, housing costs are anywhere from 200K - 1M+. Housing is generally more expensive than other areas of the valley. The schools (in general) are very good. Sandy City portion of the property taxes are some of the lowest in the state. In general, it is VERY conservative and has a high population of LDS church members. There are a lot of chain stores in the area, but not much of local, independent shops (like Salt Lake City). If you are a soccer fan, the new MLS soccer stadium opens this month. Sandy also has a large expo center and (currently) the largest mall in the state. Overall, a good, family-oriented place to live.

It's a pretty town, very suburban, lots of kids. Quite conservative, good schools, and not a bad commute into SLC if you take Trax.

Great it sounds like a great area and thanks for the link! I have been looking at some of the newer housing in Sandy, and it looks pretty good, but I did notice that most of the homes were built before 1990, but as long as I get what I want, which is new construction I'll be happy.

There is a LOT of new housing that is in short sale/foreclosure. You should be able to get a good deal.

newtoutah, yes, lol, you have a point. Lots of kids everywhere. But Sandy is particularly a young-family area, as opposed to, say, downtown SLC, sugarhouse, etc.
