I live in downtown Philadelphia and am IN LOVE with the location to amazing mountains and desert but am really worried about SLC's city.

Philadelphia's culture and urban scene are really intense and fun. I can get out of my apartment and ride to a great piazza or city square or city park and find others my age almost everywhere.

The night scene here is great. I love places that are very fun with very hip (hipsters) people that keep the lights very dark and play great music. NYC, DC, Baltimore, & Philly have these places but i'm not sure about the rest of the country.

Does SLC have anything like this?

P.S. I did some reading up on good City proper neighborhoods and then google map street view'd these neighborhoods and all of the houses had hards and such and that really confused me.

I replied on your other thread. PA native, transplanted to Utah.

I do not think SLC downtown is anything like Philly's. But there is plenty to do here and its a growing, postive area. You might have some more "energy" in places near the Unversity of Utah or maybe in a neighborhood called Sugarhouse. But I don't think the club/urban scene that exists in Philly is available here. IMHO.

Salt Lake is nothing like Philly. I don't think any of us would be foolish enough to suggest that it is. For one thing, it's a fraction the size. If I were to be in your position and considering Salt Lake, I would definitely want to move to the downtown area. Have you spent any amount of time here at all? If not, you might want to plan a week-long trip and see for yourself if the nightlife, etc. here would work for you. I can guarantee that there is plenty in and near the city to keep you busy for a whole week during the daytime hours.

Agreed, a vacation or some kind of trip before hand would be an excellent idea before making the choice.

Nope. Not a single thing like Philly!! That, of course, can be a good AND bad thing.

Not completely true. I would say that Moochies Meatballs makes a comparable cheesesteak to Ginos or Pats (although prefer Steve's myself).

Moochies IS pretty good for cheesesteaks. Just not the same, but pretty close. I still haven't found a place with a comparable hoagie though. I miss my WaWa....

Really? I was totally amazed by Moochies. They even sell Tastykakes (not what they used to be). I even went back home to Philly last year and those places didn't taste as nearly as good as I remembered them. And I am pretty much disgusted by most Utah food and considered a East coast food snob by my close Utah friends .

But hoagies, yeah good luck with that. Is there any place better than, what, Subways out here? I even miss Publix from Florida now!

WOW Publix in Florida! Haven't been to one of those in over 40 years. Probably won't again as I happen to hate Florida but that's another thread
I suspect as time goes on more Easterners will migrate here and bring with them the good foods. They don't know how to make a "Chicago Hot Dog" here either as they don't have Vienna Hot Dogs to start with. Very sad. The one place that did in Murray on State Street went out. Oh well. There isn't ONE good Kosher Deli either (don't mention the one on the East side that's not what it really is). I may have to shell out and order from Katz or Carnegie Deli in New York and pay through the nose to get it here. But at least it will be amazing. as it is I have to have my brother in Chicago send me out good Kosher Salami as there is none here to be had. All they have in the grocery stores is that cruddy pork infested stuff. Oh well.....

There is a restaurant, East Coast Subs, on State Street. They are pretty good with the hoagies...still not WaWa, but they do ok.

I was SHOCKED when I saw a Tastykake there! I was so happy, but you are right, they aren't what they used to be.

Part of my issue with the cheesesteaks is that I am not a huge cheesesteak fan in the first place. I like them okay, but hoagies are my fav. So, it probably isn't Moochies exactly, but rather I am not a fan to begin with. DH loves cheesesteaks and he thought they were the best thing this side of the Mississippi!

Utah has a lot of good things about it and I love living here, but the food doesn't stand a chance compared to back east.
