Instead of working here at work, I'm playing around on Historic Aerials! This is freaking me out! It's unbelievable how much this town has changed!

My question is: does anyone know what sort of gas station (or whatever the heck it was) sat on the NW corner of 281/1604 in 1986?

Here's a pic of it: http://www.historicaerials.com/featu...aspx?poi=13997

I don't know what it was, but it looks to me like it maybe could have been a bank, with covered drive-thru lanes on the 1604 side that were probably approached from the rear of the building.

I don't know what day or what time of day the image was taken, but there didn't appear to be much activity taking place there at that moment.

Yep, I'd have to agree. The covered space is too small for your usual gas station (even in 1986), and a bank is a much better explanation. That may even be an ATM machine on the north side, where the little loop is...

This might help:

http://www.city-data.com/forum/190997-post9.html

I remember coming online in the mid 1990's and visiting a site of aerial maps of San Antonio (Bexar County). They were recently declassified photos at that time since aerial maps were not widely available except for classified government use or expensive commercial use.

Turns out it was a County Line BBQ, not a gas station or bank or anything. Pretty cool info. Wish we could find some ground level pics.

I KNOW! So amazing! I just wish we had some for Russia, haha! Multinational options on that site, so we could go to other countries. After all, there are many cities that have had far grander changes than many in America.

The world is truly amazing. If only we could keep it so.
