Made it to work, took me 1 hour from Schertz to the Airport driving on FM78.
DO NOT GO OUT if you don't have to... there's ICE on the roads.
Even worse than that, there's a thin layer of snow on it, making it look as if there's only 1/2" of snow, but there's ice under it.

I could have stayed at home working, but I REALLY had to go to work today.
The company is auctining some things, and the auction is supposed to end "On Friday at noon"
I might get a 27" TV, a really nice aluminum stool ladder and a 8' foldable table for about $20.

I just need 1 of my co-workers to show up at noon, to have a witness

Drove the Jeep in to work this morning via Braun, Tezel, Culebra and Military. Ended up going into 4WD High about halfway here, the biggest safety hazard are the other drivers who don't know how to operate their vehicles in these conditions. Saw someone put their Honda Accord into a utility pole at Crossroads Church. I pulled into the Shell station to help, but they backed out and drove away before I could get to them to see if they were alright.

I would agree with Dopo in that if you don't have to be out in these conditions then don't. If you are not experienced in driving in this weather than you are better off staying at home. 5 MPH with iced up windows that you can't see out of and your emergency flashers on while talking on your phone is not the safest situation, and don't get mad if someone who can drive in this weather and who has the right vehicle for it passes you by. We lived through about four months of these kind of conditions every year were were in Europe, and you learn to operate in it. For those who have lived in San Antonio all their lives, this happens once every couple of years, and most don't know what to do. It's better to stay home, where you are warm and safe, then to risk driving the roads in this condition.

Cheers! M2

I didn't get called until I was already on my way in, and since I had the means and capability to get here, I decided it was better just to go in.

Otherwise, I'd advise staying home. It's a ghost town here, just a few of us contractors sitting around jawing...

For those who work on base, you can call 671-snow (7669) to get an update regarding Lackland's status. I got that in an email after I came in this morning...

Cheers! M2

In few words... driving right now is just like walking on ice (no exageration)
If you are going straight, fine
if you have to stop, I hope that the road is not slanted to the side, because that's where you are going to be going.
if you have to turn, I'm sure you know the answer, you have to do it extremely slow.

At one point, I press the brakes (I drive a stick) and the RPM dropped to 0 and the car turned off.
When I pressed the brakes, the tires stopped completely and the car was sliding down the road doing about 30MPH.
