I don't know if anyone else was interested in hearing the outcome of this. I went tonight with the thought that it would be standing room only. Unfortunately, it barely registered on anyone's radar save for a few elderly constituents of Distr 3, a few relatives of Jen Ramos, 2 sisters of Liz Campos, the Ethics committee members and a few reporters. The elderly constituents were strong supporters of Miss Ramos and spoke out forcefully about her good work. One of the speakers was a former City councilwoman named Helen Dutmer who called Tina Cortez (Campos' sister, complainant) a "Mexican *itch". I sat behind her and she also complained about Mayor Castro, referring to Rosie Castro as a "rabble rouser" and accused the mayor of making Main Plaza as "a place where a bunch of bums meet". I can't make this stuff up. The Ethics committee members were very quiet except for a few of them who ask all of the questions. The Councilwoman was well spoken and even tearful toward the end of her testimony. Tina Cortez lacked in public speaking skills and came across as vindictive in her accusations against Ms Ramos. Ms Ramos seemed a little smirky at times, which I really couldn't understand. In the end, they found her wrongful in using public property for private business purposes out of a possible 4 counts. She used her e-mails to write back and forth to WellMed, her employer to discuss the upcoming business. This seemed to written off as a "grey area" of living in our modern age of internet communication. She will receive an "admonishment" and the City Council will be asked to explicitly make it part of their rules not to e-mail business interests that might appear to be a conflict of interest.
It was tiring being there and I don;t think that I'll go back unless there are less bigots and more young hotties the next time around.
